STUDENT LEARNING IN THE PRIMARY YEARS

Welcome to our primary school, where we strive to create a supportive and challenging learning environment for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our program is designed to meet the individual needs of each learner, fostering positive self-esteem and development.

We are a diverse learning community, supported by a team of dedicated educators, parents, and caregivers. Our range of vibrant learning activities promotes acceptance of differences and provides a rigorous academic experience.

Our students explore and develop their understanding of themselves and the world through various forms of expression, including Languages, Visual Arts, and Drama.

At our school, we place a strong emphasis on language learning. Kindergarten students are immersed in their second language for 40 minutes each day, while students in Years 1 to 6 benefit from 80 minutes of daily immersion in their second language.

We believe that education is a journey that involves more than just academic achievement. Our holistic approach to learning supports the development of well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in all areas of life.

In addition to Language and Music, students experience the following Key Learning Areas (KLAs):

      • English
      • Mathematics
      • Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)
      • Science and Technology
      • Creative Arts
      • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

Learning opportunities occur both in the classroom and externally through our extensive Primary Clubs.

Flexible, integrated, inquiry-based research tasks engage students in subject areas that excite their imaginations and deepen their expertise in chosen areas.

At Glorious Primary School the Physical Education program emphasizes participation for all, with involvement in competition for upper primary students.

Our holistic approach aims to cater to the ‘total child’ – academically, socially, and physically. While Primary School classes are not streamed at Glorious Primary School, we offer a range of enrichment, extension, and acceleration within teaching programs.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Uganda Primary leaving examination (PLE)

PLE takes place every year, and Glorious Primary School students consistently perform at above-average levels.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING

At Glorious Primary School, assessment and reporting are seen as essential components in good teaching and learning. Teachers use a range of strategies to assess learning. Students may be involved in the evaluative process, including self-assessment when appropriate. Teachers provide information to parents about assessment outcomes in a clear and comprehensive manner.

Parents of children in Primary year 1 to Year 6 are able to meet formally with the Home Class teacher of their child in Term 1 to discuss early progress. This is followed up with parent and teacher interviews in Term 2 with Languages teachers. Of course, parents may schedule additional meetings with teachers as needed.

Formal written reports following Commonwealth Guidelines are issued at the end of each semester for children in Primary School These reports describe student achievement in each course or area of study, using grade marks. An effort is reported each semester as well.

Our teachers’ qualifications are either from a higher education institution within Uganda or are recognized within the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition guidelines.

This ensures that our teachers are highly qualified and equipped to provide the best education possible to our students.

We believe that learning another language is essential for the development of social skills, as it helps to connect us to others in new and exciting ways. It enhances our empathy for different cultures and expands our identity, giving us a more comprehensive understanding of the world around us.

At Glorious Kindergarten, we are dedicated to providing our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in all areas of life. Our unique language program is just one of the many ways we do this.
